New Apple TV 4K: Five Big Upgrades Expected

New Apple TV 4K: Five Big Upgrades Expected

Apple’s next Apple TV 4K could bring more than faster streaming. A new model is expected at the October 13 “Welcome home” launch, with rumours pointing to an A19 chip, Siri AI and hardware changes that could make voice control more convenient.

It would be the first Apple TV 4K update since 2022. While the event has been announced, the device’s specifications remain unconfirmed ahead of the unveiling.

Here are the five upgrades reportedly in development and what they could mean for your living room.

An A19 chip for more processing power

The new Apple TV 4K is rumoured to replace the current model’s A15 Bionic with an A19 chip.

That would give the device more processing headroom for apps, games and new software features. It could also provide the foundation for Siri AI, which is expected to be a central part of the update.

A faster processor does not automatically improve the picture quality of every film or show. Its value would depend on how Apple and app developers use the additional performance.

Siri AI takes a bigger role

Siri AI is expected to make Apple’s assistant a more important part of the television experience.

The details of its Apple TV capabilities have yet to be confirmed, including supported requests, availability and how it will interact with other home devices.

The practical question is whether it makes everyday tasks easier. Finding something to watch or controlling playback needs to feel quicker than navigating menus with the remote.

A microphone inside the Apple TV

Apple has reportedly tested microphones built into the Apple TV box itself, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

That could let users speak to Siri without reaching for the Siri Remote or using a paired HomePod. However, a feature being tested does not guarantee it will appear in the shipping product. 9to5Mac

If included, the microphone would be a meaningful change in how people interact with the device. Apple would also need to explain its microphone controls and how voice requests are handled.

A remote that is easier to find

A refreshed Siri Remote with a built in speaker is another feature Apple has reportedly tested.

The purpose would be straightforward: making a misplaced remote easier to locate by sound, including when it has slipped between sofa cushions. 9to5Mac

Being able to ask Siri to trigger that sound would be a useful possibility, but that specific interaction has not been confirmed. The reported speaker alone should not be treated as proof of the complete feature.

An N1 wireless chip

The fifth rumoured upgrade is Apple’s N1 wireless chip.

It could support improvements to wireless connectivity and interactions with other Apple devices. The exact benefits for Apple TV remain unclear, so specific claims about speed, reliability or new sharing features will need confirmation.

For a device used to stream entertainment and connect with a wider home setup, consistent connectivity would be a practical benefit even without a dramatic design change.

When could the new Apple TV arrive?

The expected October 13 unveiling and the retail release may happen on different dates. Gurman has reported an October 30 availability target for the new Apple TV 4K. Pricing and final configurations remain unconfirmed.

For existing owners, the strongest reason to upgrade may turn out to be easier interaction rather than raw speed. Siri AI, voice access through the box and a remote that can make itself heard could address everyday frustrations, if they reach the final product.
